Blank Sailing
In international logistics and ocean freight, a Blank Sailing (also known as a void sailing) occurs when a shipping line or ocean carrier cancels a scheduled port call or an entire voyage. This disruption can happen for various reasons: unforeseen geopolitical conflicts, severe weather, port congestion, or mechanical failures. However, it is also frequently used as a strategic capacity management tool by carriers. By artificially reducing the supply of available shipping space on a specific trade lane, carriers can prevent freight rates from dropping or even push them higher. When a blank sailing occurs, the cargo that was scheduled to be loaded is "rolled" (postponed) to the next available vessel, causing significant delays, inventory shortages, and supply chain bottlenecks for global importers and exporters.

국제 물류 및 해상 운송에서 블랭크 세일링(Blank Sailing, 임시 결항 또는 공항해)은 해운 선사가 예정된 항만 기항을 취소하거나 전체 항해 일정 자체를 취소하는 것을 의미합니다. 이러한 차질은 예기치 않은 지정학적 위기, 악천후, 항만 혼잡, 선박 결함 등 다양한 이유로 발생할 수 있습니다. 하지만 선사들이 운임을 방어하거나 인상하기 위해 인위적으로 선복량(화물 적재 공간)을 줄이는 전략적 목적으로도 자주 사용됩니다. 블랭크 세일링이 발생하면 해당 선박에 실릴 예정이었던 화물은 다음 선박으로 이월(Rolled)되며, 이는 전 세계 수출입 기업들에게 심각한 배송 지연, 재고 부족, 그리고 공급망 병목 현상을 초래하게 됩니다.
