새는 왜 여행하는가
조류학자들이 먹이를 위해 혹은 번식을 위해 새들은 먼 여행을 하는 것이라고 얘기할 때, 나는 고개를 젓는다. 그보다 더 형이상학적인 이유가 있을 거라 믿기 때문이다. 생각해보라. 당신 같으면 단지 부족한 식량 때문에 먼 산과 강을 넘어 수천 수만리의 여행을 하겠는가. 그것도 눈앞에 닥친 기아가 아닌 얼마 후의 미래를 예측하고....
