'Shoot'은 '(총을) 쏘다'라는 뜻도 있지만, 속어로 '어서 말해'라는 뜻도 있기 때문이다. 그런데, 락우드가 말한 shoot에 '총으로 쏴서 죽이다'라는 의미가 없는 건 아니다. '쏘는 건 좋은데, 겨냥은 맬러리 쪽으로 해'라는 또다른 의미로도 해석할 수 있다. 락우드는 shoot이라는 단어를 이용해서 pun을 하고 있는 것이다. 참고로 위 대화에서 맬러리(레슬리 닐슨)는 야당 대통령 후보의 극중 이름이다.
