I am neither virtuous, nor skilful at governing. There will definitely be times when I do not act upon the heavens’ wishes. So look hard for my flaws and make me answer to their reprimands.

충고

누구라도 나를 충고해주고 결점을 적당하게 지적해주는 자가 있으면 그 사람이야말로 나의 스승으로서 존경해야할 사람인 것이다.

충고는 멀리하고 칭찬을 가까이 하고 싶은 게 보통 심리입니다.

그러나 다디단 말만 듣고 싶어 하는 귀에는 그가 좋아하는 말만 해주는 게 일반적 상황입니다. 그리하여 귀가 막히게 되고 세상물정 모르는 사람이 되는 것입니다.

열린 귀는 열린 마음에서 비롯되는 것, 남의 말에 귀 기울이고 쓴말도 새겨듣는 마음가짐이 필요합니다. 그래야 잘못된 점을 개선할 수 있습니다.

맛있는 음식이 사실은 입맛에 맞는 양념 맛이어서 건강과는 좀 먼 것이라는 점을 생각한다면, 칭찬도 그런 것.

당장의 충고가 쓰지만 훗날 내게 도움이 되는 말이라는 걸 명심할 일입니다.
