중국의 병법 중에 차시환혼(借屍還魂)이란 전술이 있습니다. 풀이하면 빌릴 차(借)에 죽은 사람의 시신을 뜻하는 시(屍), 차시(借屍)는 죽은 다른 사람의 육신을 빌린다는 뜻이고, 돌아올 환에 영혼 혼, 환혼(還魂)은 나의 죽었던 혼을 되돌린다 뭐 이런 뜻인데요.. 그러니까 내 육신이 없어지고 영혼만 남았을 때 다른 죽은 사람의 시체라도 빌려서 다시 환생한다는 뜻으로 사용되는 전술입니다.

이 병법은 자신의 잃어버린 영혼을 다른 사람의 육신을 빌려 환생하였다는 어느 도사의 고사에서 유래합니다.

옛날 이현(李玄)이라는 도사가 있었는데 워낙 도력이 높아 누구나 보면 신선 같은 풍모를 느낄 수 있을 정도로 우아한 육신을 가지고 있었답니다. 이 도사는 인간계와 선계를 자유자재로 넘나들었는데, 어느 날 잠시 육체를 떠나 신선이 있는 하늘로 영혼이 올라갔는데, 7일 만에 다시 돌아와 보니 자신의 육신이 다른 사람들 손에 불태워 없어진 것을 발견합니다. 아마도 세상 사람들은 그 도사를 죽었다고 생각해서 그랬겠죠. 자신의 우아한 육체를 잃어버리고 고민하던 그 도사는 마침 길거리에 죽어있는 거지의 죽은 시신을 발견하고 그 거지의 몸속으로 들어가 인간으로 다시 환생하였다는 이야기입니다.

비록 자신이 들어간 새로운 시신이 별 볼일 없는 거지의 몸이었지만 그것을 통해 그는 새로운 생명을 얻을 수 있었다는 것인데요. 만약에 지상으로 돌아온 이현(李玄)이 자신의 우아한 옛날 육체만 고집하고 새로운 육신을 거부하였다면 과연 어떻게 되었을까요? 그렇다면 그는 영원히 인간으로 살아나지 못한 채 구천을 떠도는 영혼으로 남았을 것입니다.

새로운 현실을 거부하고 지나간 시절만 생각하는 사람은 영원한 생명을 얻을 수 없다는 뜻으로 자주 인용되는 고사입니다. 여러분! 여러분이 과연 이런 상황이라면 옛날의 우아한 모든 것을 버리고 더럽고 천한 거지의 몸을 선택하실 수 있겠습니까?

회사가 부도나거나 조직이 와해되어 자리를 잃게 될 때 반응하는 두 가지 유형이 있다고 합니다.

첫째는 주저앉아 지나간 시절을 회상하며 눈물만 흘리는 유형이고, 둘째는 툴툴 털고 다른 조직, 다른 직책으로 바꿔 타고 새롭게 자신의 영혼을 되살리는 유형이지요.

비록 별 볼일 없는 조직의 하찮은 직책이라도 그 계기를 통해 새롭게 재기하는 전략을 세우실 수 있는 분이라면 남의 시신을 빌려 자신의 영혼을 되살리는 차시환혼(借屍還魂)의 병법을 꿰뚫은 분이실 겁니다.

비록 이전과는 다른 대우를 받고 남들에게 보이기 싫은 내 모습이라도 내 영혼을 되살릴 수만 있다면 주저 없이 바꿔 타야 한다는 것이지요. 대기업 임원을 지내다가 중소기업의 하찮은 자리로 옮겨 결국 더 큰 승리를 얻었다는 분이나, 3도 수군통제사의 자리에 있다가 백의종군하는 하찮은 자리라도 마다않고 기꺼이 운명을 갈아탈 줄 아는 이순신 장군의 모습 속에서 상황을 직시하고 유연하게 자신의 모습을 바꿀 줄 아는 사람의 모습이 느껴집니다.

세상엔 고정된 모습이란 없다. 다가 온 모습을 유연하게 받아들여 내 모습을 바꿀 줄 아는 자만이 승리를 유지할 것이다. 손자병법에서는 이런 유연한 사고를 강조하면 물을 닮으라고 말합니다.

수무상형(水無常形)이라! 물은 고정된 모습이 주장하지 않는다. 그러므로 어떤 모습이든 될 수 있는 것이다. 장군은 물과 같아야 한답니다. 자신의 모습을 자유자재로 부술 줄 아는 장군만이 마지막 승자가 될 것이라는 겁니다. 중요한 것은 어떤 육체(屍)냐가 아니라 어떤 정신(魂)을 가지고 있는가이기 때문입니다. 인생처세나 조직론에서 자주 사용되는 차시환혼(借屍還魂)의 전술은 결국 영원한 생존을 위한 전술입니다. 생존을 위하여 새로운 육체를 찾아 끊임없이 떠도는 영혼(魂)의 계속되는 행진은 어떤 상황에서도 살아남을 수 있는 사람들의 행동방식이며 삶의 방식입니다.
