오늘 아침은 간단하게 아내에게서 받은 글을 소개드리려고 합니다. 아내도 친구에게 글을 받았다고 하는데, 반성하라고 저에게 보내준 것 같습니다.

'못된 자녀'를 만드는 10가지 비결

1. 아주 어려서부터 자녀가 갖고 싶어하는 것은 무엇이든지 다 주어라. 그러면 그 아이는 온 세상 모든 것이 다 자기의 것이 될 수 있다고 오해하면서 자랄 것이다.

2. 자녀가 나쁜 말을 할 때면 그냥 웃어 넘겨라. 그러면 자기가 재치 있는 아이인 줄 알고 더욱 악한 말을 하게 될 것이다.

3. 신앙적으로 도덕적으로 어떠한 교육이나 훈련을 시키지 말고 스스로 알아서 하게 내버려 두어라. 그러면 고상함은 사라지고 동물적 본능만 강렬하게 나타날 것이다.

4. 잘못된 품행을 책망하지 말고 그냥 두어라. 그러면 자동차를 훔치고 교도소에 갇혀서 사회의 책망을 받게 될 것이다.

5. 자녀가 정돈하지 않는 이불, 옷, 신발 등을 정리해 주어라. 그러면 자기의 책임을 다른 사람에게 미루어 버리는 사람이 될 것이다.

6. 텔레비전 프로그램이나 책, 그림 등 어떤 것이든 마음대로 보게 하라. 그러면 그 마음은 쓰레기통이 될 것이다.

7. 자녀들 앞에서 자주 싸워라. 그러면 이 다음에 그들의 가정이 깨져도 당연한 것으로 여길 것이다.

8. 용돈은 달라고 하는 대로 얼마든지 주어라. 그러면 살아가는 동안 쉽게 부패하고 타락하는 길을 걷게 될 것이다.

9. 먹고 싶다는 것은 다 먹이고, 마시고 싶다는 것도 다 마시게 하라. 그리고 좋아하는 것은 무조건 다 해주어라. 그러면 한 번만 거절을 당하여도 곧 낙심해서 극단적인 행동을 하게 될 것이다.

10. 자녀가 교사나 경찰, 성직자의 의견과 대립될 때는 언제나 아이의 편이 되어 주어라. 그러면 건전한 사회가 모두 그 아이의 적이 될 것이다.

유키치 7훈

일본 게이오 대학의 설립자이자 일본 근대화의 정신적 지주였던 후쿠자와 유키치(福澤諭吉)는 마음에 새겨 두어야 할 가르침을 남겼습니다. 흔히들 『후쿠자와 유키치 7훈』이라고 합니다.

무에서 유를 창조하라! 무중생유(無中生有)

안녕하십니까! 박 재 희입니다. 세상을 살다 보면 정말 아무 것도 없어서 어떤 방법도 없을 막막할 때가 있을 겁니다. 돈은 모두 떨어지고, 주변 사람들의 마음은 모두 다른 곳으로 가 있고 주변에 어느 누구도 더 이상 도와주지 않을 때 이런 막막한 때에 과연 어떤 방법으로 이 난국을 돌파 하시겠습니까? 이럴 땐 무중생유의 병법을 한번 떠 올림심이 어떠십니까?

무중생유(無中生有)라! 무(無)에서 유(有)를 창조하라(生)! 원래부터 존재하는 것은 없다. 불가능할 것 같은 상황 속에도 반드시 길은 있다. 없다고 주저앉지 말고 신념을 가지고 방법을 찾으면 길이 보일 것이다. 뭐 이런 전술 입니다. 막다른 길에 몰렸을 때 한탄만 한다고 해결 방법이 찾아지는 것은 아닐 겁니다.

도저히 방법이 없을 것 같은 상황 속에서 답을 찾아내는 것이 무중생유의 전술을 이해하는 유능한 리더의 행동방식입니다. 적벽대전에서 제갈공명이 아무 것도 없는 가운데 적의 화살 10만개를 만들어 쓴 것도 무중생유의 생각이 있었기 때문에 가능했던 것입니다. 궁하면 통한다는 긍정의 힘이 결국 답을 찾게 만드는 것입니다.

이 전술의 철학적 토대는 노자의 도덕경입니다. ‘천하의 모든 존재는 유(有)에서 나오지만 그 유(有)는 결국 무(無)에서 나오는 것이다(天下萬物生於有, 有生於無)’ 세상에 존재하는 모든 사물은 결국 ‘없음’에서 시작되었다는 것입니다. 가만히 생각해 보면 있음의 유(有)는 없음인 무(無)가 있을 때 성립되는 개념입니다. 유는 무 없이 홀로 존재할 수 없다는 것이지요. 무중생유의 계책은 세상의 사물은 모두 변화 발전한다는 전제에서 시작됩니다.

밤이 지나면 아침이 오고, 겨울이 가면 반드시 따뜻한 봄이 온다는 자연의 변화 속에서 유(有)와 무(無)의 상생을 본 것입니다. 내가 처한 환경과 조건이 아무리 혹독하고 어렵더라도 반드시 그 속에서 새로운 성공의 싹을 찾을 수 있다는 것이 ‘무중생유’의 철학입니다.

이 전술을 유용하게 사용한 역사적 예가 있습니다. 당(唐)나라 안록산(安祿山)은 반란을 일으켜 많은 지방 관리들을 투항시켰습니다. 그런데 장순(張巡) 장군만은 당나라에 충성을 다하여 투항하지 않고 3천명의 병력으로 성을 굳게 지키고 있었습니다. 이때 안록산은 4만의 군대를 보내 성을 포위하였고 성안에 군대는 화살이 떨어져 더 이상 싸울 수 없게 되었습니다.

그야말로 무(無)의 상황이 된 것입니다. 더 이상 무기든 병력이든 어떤 것도 없었던 장순은 무중생유(無中生有)의 전술을 사용합니다. 삼국시대에 제갈량이 풀로 만든 배를 보내 적의 화살을 얻었듯이 풀로 엮어 만든 거짓 병사들에게 검은 옷을 걸쳐 야간에 성벽을 타고 내려가는 것처럼 꾸몄습니다. 적군은 성안의 군사들이 야간 공격을 해온다고 생각하여 화살을 소나기처럼 퍼부었고 장순은 쉽게 적의 화살 수십만 개를 얻을 수 있었습니다

다음날 적은 자신들이 속았다고 분노하였고 그 날 밤 장순은 정예부대 5백 명을 다시 내려 보내 안심하고 있는 적의 진영을 습격하였습니다. 그리고 적의 혼란한 틈을 타서 성안의 병사들을 이끌고 총 공격을 하여 승리하였습니다. 무에서 유를 창조한 ‘무중생유’의 전술이 먹혀 들어간 것이었습니다.

이 전술을 사용할 때 두 가지 점에서 주의해야 합니다. 첫째 더 이상 잃을 것이 없다고 생각할 때가 가장 좋은 조건임을 확신해야 합니다. 둘째 기회를 잡았다고 생각하면 신속하게 허(虛)를 실(實)로 전환하고 거짓(僞)을 진짜(眞)로 전환하고, 무(無)를 유(有)로 전환하여야 합니다.

살면서 얼마든지 위기에 빠질 수 있습니다. 중요한 것은 어떻게 그 위기에서 탈출하느냐 입니다. 모든 것을 다 잃었다고 생각되었을 때가 다시 얻을 수 있는 가장 좋은 기회입니다.

무중생유(無中生有)라! 무에서 유를 만들어 내라! 원래부터 있는 것은 없다. 없음에서 있음이 나왔다는 것을 잊지 말라! 아무 것도 없다고 생각할 때가 가장 많은 것을 얻을 수 있을 것이란 긍정의 생각을 가진 사람만이 무중생유의 전술을 사용할 수 있을 겁니다.

‘갈라진 두 길이 있었지. 나는 사람들이 덜 다닌 길을 택했고, 그것이 모든걸 바꾸어 놓았네.’

로버트 프로스트(R. Frost)의 유명한 시 ‘가지 않은 길(The Road Not Taken)’ 중 한 구절이다. 누구나 삶의 도중에 갈림길을 맞이하곤 한다. 프로스트의 선택처럼 낯선 길을 간다는 건 두렵지만 흥미로운 일이기도 하다. 반대로 사람들이 많이 다니는 길은 지루할 순 있지만 안전하다는 느낌을 준다.

꽃 위를 나는 나비들의 사랑의 춤사위가 현란한 요즘입니다. 사랑은 우리를 살게 하는 원동력이자 각박한 세상의 윤활유와 같습니다.

누군가는 사랑은 사량(思量)에서 비롯된 말이라고 합니다. 그 말이 사실이라면 사랑의 크기는 생각하는 양에 비례하는 셈입니다. 나 아닌 누군가를 생각하는 사람이 많아지면 많아질수록 세상은 사랑으로 가득해질 것입니다.

Sundries: 칫솔처럼

오늘 아침에는 이러한 저의 작은 다짐을 가지고 출근해서 메일박스를 열고 메일들을 읽었습니다. 고도원의 아침편지를 읽다가 저에게 또 다른 되돌아봄을 주게 된 글을 발견했습니다. 너무 좋은 내용들이 있어 공유하고자 합니다. 칫솔은 자신만이 쓸 수 있으며 자신이 반드시 관리해야하는 것입니다. 자기 신뢰가 칫솔이라는 것입니다. 희망, 호흡, 사랑을 통해서 항상 관리하고 사용해야 한다는 내용입니다.

제 자신을 다시 한번 돌아보게 되고, 마음가짐을 다시 하게 되는 좋은 글입니다.

자기 신뢰는 칫솔과도 같다고 합니다. 정기적으로 매일 사용해야 하는 것, 하지만 남의 것은 절대 쓸 수 없는 것이 바로 '자신에 대한 믿음'입니다.

서로에게 위안

요즘 다들 힘들다 보니 안부인사에 답을 할 때 “그럭저럭 지내”라고 하면 상대편이 “그 정도면 잘 지내는 거야”라고 대답하고는 합니다. 길을 걷다가 마주치는 사람들의 지친 얼굴을 볼 때, 저편에서 사람이 오고 있는대도 엘리베이터 안에서 닫힘 버튼을 쉴 새 없이 눌러대는 사람을 볼 때, 예쁜 봄 꽃이 지천인데 핸드폰만 바라보는 사람들을 볼 때 약간 서글픕니다. 서로에게 위안이 필요하고, 또 어깨를 다독여줘야 할 시기인 것 같습니다.

저는 생텍쥐베리를 참 좋아했습니다. 어른을 위한 동화인 “어린왕자”에 담긴 수많은 은유와 인생의 지혜에 감탄했고, 비행기를 타고 어디론가 사라져버린 소설가 자체의 사연에도 빠져들었습니다.

생텍쥐베리가 쓴 또 다른 소설 “인간의 대지”를 보면 그의 자전적인 내용이 담겨있습니다. 그가 비행기 조종을 하면서 겪은 다양한 사건들을 그리고 있는데, 어느 날 동료 프레모와 함께 비행을 하다가 이집트 사막에 불시착을 한 내용이 나옵니다. 그와 동료는 낮에는 발을 끌며 최대한 멀리 걸어갔다가, 밤바람이 모래 위의 발자국을 지워 버리기 전에 비행기로 돌아오는 일을 반복합니다.

“삶을 향해 걸어가고 있는 것인지도 모르는데 발길을 돌이키기란 얼마나 어려운 일인가”라고 탄식도 합니다.

그리하여 마실 것이 모두 떨어졌을 때, 동료 프레모는 울기 시작합니다. 셍텍쥐베리는 울고 있는 프레모를 위로합니다.

“울지 마. 다 틀려먹었으면, 다 틀려먹은 거지 뭐…..”

어깨를 두드리는 생텍쥐베리를 향해 프레모는 이렇게 대꾸합니다.

“내가 나 때문에 우는 줄 압니까? 난 이곳에서 죽을지도 모르는 당신 때문에 우는 거예요.”

생명이 위협받는 극한 상황에서 스스로도 생의 의지를 놓아 버리고 싶을 때, 다른 사람을 생각하며 눈물 흘리는 마음은 얼마나 아름답고 고귀한지요… 결국 그들은 불시착한지 닷새 만에 구조됩니다.

이름표

오늘은 문득 김춘수님의 꽃과 이름 모를 분의 이름표라는 글이 생각나는 아침입니다. 점점 잊혀져 가는 이름이 되는 것이 아닌가 하는 생각이 듭니다.

이 아이의 이름은 ‘마틸다’인가 봅니다. 영화 속 그가 사랑했던 그녀의 이름이었던가요? 이름을 지어주고, 이름표까지 꽂아준 이 화분의 주인은 물을 줄 때마다 나지막하게 이 이름을 불러주곤 하겠죠?

초등학교 1학년, 왼쪽 가슴에는 내 이름 석 자가 쓰여진 노란색 이름표와 오른쪽 가슴에는 하얀 가제 수건이 매달려 있었습니다. 옛날 할머니들이 발음이 어려워 ‘거즈’를 ‘가제’로 부르게 된 실로 엮인 가볍고 부드러운 손수건 말이에요.

그나저나 그 손수건으로든 소매 끝으로든 코를 훔친 기억은 없는 걸 보면 그래도 ‘코흘리개’ 소리는 듣지 않았던 모양입니다.

가족 말고, 동네 소꿉놀이 친구 말고 내 이름이 처음 불려진 건 아마 초등학교 입학식 때였을 겁니다. 지금도 그렇지만 그때에도 난 집중을 잘하지 못했던 것 같아요. 처음 만난 옆 짝꿍과 무슨 할 얘기가 그리 많다고 선생님께서 내 이름을 부르시는 것도 듣지 못해 교실 밖 창문으로 날 쳐다보시던 엄마에게 들켜 집에 가는 길에 조금 혼도 났었답니다.

아무것도 몰랐던 여덟 살배기 1학년짜리가 머리가 굵어지면서 이름을 불러주는 사람들은 점점 늘어났고, 나 역시 외워야 할 이름들이 너무 많아져 새 학기가 돌아올 때마다 혹시라도 잊어버리기라도 할까 수첩 빼곡히 친한 순서대로 적어 놓는 것이 나름 연례행사였습니다.

가슴에 매달린 너의 이름 한번 보고, 다시 네 얼굴 한번 보고 나도, 당신들도 누군가를 마음에 담는 그림은 그렇게 그리기 시작했을 테지요.

지금 내 가슴에도 언젠간 당신이 불러줄 이름표가 매달려 있습니다. 눈에 보이지 않는다 고개 돌리진 말아요. 당신이 나를 알아봐 주는 순간, 이 이름표는 선명하게 내 이름을 당신에게 말해줄 테니까요. 일부러 외우지 않아도, 기억하게 되는 이름이 되면 그때 이 이름표를 뗄게요.

요즘은 시간을 쪼개서라도 독서를 하려고 합니다.

이번에 사려고 하는 책은 앤서니 그랜트의 ‘행복은 어디에서 오는가’ 입니다. 이 책에 보면, 이런 글귀가 있습니다.

…. 타고난 성격, 환경, 의도적인 선택 가운데 어떤 것이 행복에 가장 큰 영향을 미칠까? 유전, 환경, 선택은 행복을 좌우하는 세가지 요소이자 일명 ‘행복 파이’의 조각들이다. 전체 인구를 대상으로 한 연구에 의하면 행복을 좌우하는 요소 가운데 성격적 기질을 비롯해 유전적 요인은50퍼센트 작용한다. 반면, 재산, 교육 수준, 사는 지역 등 환경이 끼치는 영향은 10퍼센트 밖에 되지 않는다. 따라서 당신이 매일매일 살아가면서 선택하는 의도적인 행동이 행복에서 차지하는 비중은 무려 40퍼센트나 된다….

동안 선호 시대... 피부에 좋은 음식 5가지

최근 피부건강에 신경쓰는 사람들이 늘고 있다. 요즘에는 여성들 뿐만 아니라 남성들도 피부관리에 공을 들이는 사람이 많다. 피부가 깨끗하면 정갈한 인상과 함께 몸 전체가 건강하다는 느낌을 준다. 피부건강에 좋은 음식 5가지를 소개한다.

1.감=식약처에 따르면 감 한 개에는 비타민 A(약 474RE)가 풍부해 성인의 하루 필요량을 모두 충족할 수 있다. 비타민 A는 피부와 점막 형성 및 기능유지, 상피세포의 성장과 발달에 도움을 준다. 피부와 피로회복에 좋은 비타민 C도 단감 하나에 13mg 정도 들어있다. 성인의 1일 비타민 C 권장섭취량은 100mg이다.

2.당근=피부와 눈 건강에 좋은 베타-카로틴이 풍부하다. 채소 중 가장 많은 베타-카로틴을 함유하고 있다. 몸안에서 비타민 A로 전환되는 이 성분은 소화흡수율이 낮아 생으로 먹으면 약 10%만 흡수되는게 단점이다. 그러나 익히거나 식용유 등 기름에 조리하면 흡수율이 30~50%로 높아진다. 베타-카로틴은 당근의 과육 부분보다는 껍질 부분에 더 많이 포함되어 있다.

3.오이=비타민A와 C가 많이 들어 있다. 특히 오이의 이소크엘시트린 성분은 부기를 빼는 효과가 있어 부종에 도움이 된다. 오이를 얇게 잘라 얼굴에 붙이거나 곱게 다져 밀가루와 섞어 얼굴에 펴 바르는 오이팩은 건성피부에 수분을 공급해 준다. 오랜 야외활동으로 지친 피부의 열기를 식혀주는 기능도 한다. 이 때 오이로 얼굴을 마사지하면 미백효과도 볼 수 있다.

4.토마토=항산화물질인 리코펜이 풍부한 대표적인 식품이다. 리코펜은 피부에 해로운 자외선을 방지하고 비정상세포의 성장을 막아줘 암을 예방한다. 피부 안의 리코펜은 자외선에 노출될 때 가장 빠른 속도로 반응해 없어진다. 따라서 리코펜을 많이 섭취하면 피부 합병증 예방에 효과적이라고 할 수 있다. 또한 리코펜은 베타카로틴에 비해 항산화 기능이 2배에 달해 피부의 노화를 억제하는 것으로 보고되고 있다.

5.두부=두부, 두유 등 콩 제품에는 이소플라본이 풍부하다. 미국 영양학회 저널에 실린 연구에 따르면 이소플라본을 섭취한 생쥐는 자외선에 노출되더라도 주름이 적고 피부가 매끄러운 것으로 나타났다. 이소플라본이 피부를 팽팽하게 해주는 콜라겐을 보존해 주기 때문이다. ‘식물성 에스트로겐’이라 불리는 이소플라본은 피부를 보호하는 효능은 물론 갱년기 장애를 앓는 여성에게도 도움이 된다.

21세기에는 '지금' 행복한 사람이 '나중에도' 행복하다. 지금 사는 게 재미있는 사람이 나중에도 재미있게 살 수 있다. 21세기의 핵심가치는 '재미'다. 창의적 지식은 재미있을 때만 생겨난다. 그래서 재미와 창의성은 심리학적으로 동의어다.

Description	English: Three Polar bears approach the starboard bow of the Los Angeles-class fast attack submarine USS Honolulu (SSN 718) while surfaced 280 miles from the North Pole. Sighted by a lookout from the bridge (sail) of the submarine, the bears investigated the boat for almost 2 hours before leaving. Commanded by Cmdr. Charles Harris, USS Honolulu while conducting otherwise classified operations in the Arctic, collected scientific data and water samples for U.S. and Canadian Universities as part of an agreement with the Arctic Submarine Laboratory (ASL) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). USS Honolulu is the 24th Los Angeles-class submarine, and the first original design in her class to visit the North Pole region. Honolulu is assigned to Commander Submarine Pacific, Submarine Squadron Three, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

진실 그대로 받아주는 자세

과실은 사람을 결합시키는 힘이다. 진실은 진실한 행위에 의해서만 전달된다.

- 톨스토이 -

사소한 과실이 쌓여 큰 사건이나 사고로 연결됩니다. 그럴 때 너 나 할 것 없이 서로 돕고 마음을 합치게 됩니다. 우리는 어려울 때 더 강해지는 민족이어서 끈끈한 정이 다시 일어설 수 있게 하는 원동력이 됩니다. 어쩔 수 없는 실수와 잘못은 감싸주고 극복할 수 있게 도와주어야 합니다.

때로 진실이 오해받기도 하지만, 태도나 행동으로 우리는 그 진실을 알아차릴 수 있습니다. 진실이 때로 왜곡되는 것은, 믿었던 것으로부터 배신을 당했던 유사한 경험 때문일 겁니다. 어떤 행동의 뒷면의 배경이나 의도를 굳이 만들어 생각하기보다는 진실 그대로 받아주는 자세를 가져야겠습니다.
