Two friends meet on a Miami street. One looked forlorn, and almost on the verge of tears. The other man said, "Hey, how come you look like the whole world caved in?"
The sad fellow said, "Let me tell you. Three weeks ago, an uncle died and left me forty thousand dollars."
"That's not bad."
"Hold on, I'm just getting started. Two weeks ago, a cousin I never knew kicked the bucket , and left me eighty-five thousand free and clear."
"Sounds like you should be grateful."
"Last week my great aunt passed away. I inherited almost a quarter of a million."
"Then how come you look so glum?"
"This week........ nothing!"

친구 둘이 마이아미 거리에서 서로 만났다. 한 친구는 낙담한 표정으로 눈물이 터질것만 같았다. 다른 친구가 말했다.
"이봐! 자네 왜 세상이 무너져버릴것만 같은 표정을 하고 있어?"
슬픈 표정을 한 친구가 말했다.
"이봐, 3주전에 삼촌이 돌아가셨는데, 나에게 40,000달러를 남겼더라고."
"그건 나쁜 소식이 아니잖아!"
"계속 들어봐, 이제 이야기를 꺼내잖아! 2주 전엔 나도 모르는 사촌이 죽었는데, 나에게 저당 잡히지 않은 85,000달러짜리 재산을 남겼어"
"고맙게 생각해야겠네!"
"지난주엔 나의 고모할머니께서 돌아가셨는데, 나에게 근 250,000달러를 상속했더라고"
"그런데 왜 그렇게 풀이 죽어있어"
"이번주엔 .......없잖아!"

익숙해 진다는 것. 사람들은 어느새 고마움을 느끼지 못하게 됩니다. 행복을 느끼려면 무언가 새로운 것을 바라기 보다 현재에서 만족을 느낄 수 있는 사람이 되어야 합니다.
