나는 고객을 왕이라고 생각하지 않는다.

나는 고객은 왕이라고 생각하지 않는다. 고객을 왕으로 생각하는 순간 그와 제대로 소통할 수 없고 진심을 툭 터놓을 수도 없기 때문이다. 고객이 친구이며 가족이 되어야만 그들이 무엇을 좋아하고 무엇 때문에 괴로워하는지 파악할 수 있다. 그래야 내가 발 벗고 도와줄 수 있는 것이다.

꼬마와 스님

꼬마와 스님

“스님! 제가 퀴즈 하나 낼테니 맞혀보세요.”

초등학교4학년인 한 꼬마가 수수께끼라며 갑자기 문제를 냈다.

“5빼기3은 뭘까요?”

한참을 궁리했다. 넌센스 문제 같기도 하고 아니면 무슨 의미가 내포되어 있겠다는 생각도 들었다. 별의 별 생각을 다한 뒤에 “글쎄......”라고 답했다.

“굉장히 쉬워요. 5빼기3은2예요”

나는 피식 웃음이 났다. 꼬마는 또 물었다.

“그 뜻은 무엇일까요?”

‘하! 이건 또 뭐야?’ 혼자 중얼거리며 생각에 잠겨있는데 그 녀석 하는 말이 걸작이다.

“오(5)해를 타인의 입장에서 세(3)번만 더 생각하면 이(2)해가 된다는 뜻이랍니다.”

누가 내게 욕을 할 때는 그럴만한 나름대로의 이유가 있어서다. 그 사람의 입장에서 욕을 할 수밖에 없었던 이유를 찾아보자. 이해가 되면 분노가 사라진다. 이해가 되면 내가 편해진다. 5빼기3은2~!!! 삶을 새롭게 하는 커다란 힘을 가졌다. 꼬마는 신이 나서 퀴즈를 하나 더 냈다.

“2더하기2는요?”

나는 가볍게 알아맞혔다.

“4지 뭐니”

“맞았어요. 그럼 그 뜻은요?” 하고 되묻는다.

또 한참을 궁리하다 모른다고 했더니 그 꼬마는...

“이(2)해하고 또 이(2)해하는게 사(4)랑이래요” 라고 말한 뒤 깔깔대며 뛰어간다.

이 얼마나 멋진 말인가? ‘이해하고 또 이해하는게 사랑이라.........’

♡ 내친 김에4+4=8도 맞춰 보실래요?

사랑하고 또 사랑하면 팔자도 바뀐답니다 ^^

의자

공원의 야트막한 언덕바지에 의자가 하나 서 있다. 젊은 날에는 튼튼한 신체를 가진 자존심이 강한 의자였으나, 이제는 닳아 칠이 군데군데 벗겨진데다 한쪽으로 조금 기울어 왠지 안타까움마저 느끼게 한다. 몸이 무거운 사람이 앉으면 철제 다리의 이음매가 헐거워진 탓에 일쑤 삐걱거린다. 그래도 평생 상대를 가리지 않고 자신을 내어주는데 이골이 난 터라, 사람을 아늑하고 편안하게 품어주는 데는 미립이 섰다. 그곳에 앉으면 등이 배기는 법이 없다.

의자는 다녀간 엉덩이를 기억한다지요. 그래서 좀 더 편히 쉴 수 있도록 제 각도를 잡아주는 것일까요.

어느 의자보다 편한 의자는 집안의 의자겠지요. 긴장하지 않아도 되는 의자, 직함이 없는 의자이니까요.

어느 누구에게 한번쯤 의자노릇을 한 적 있는지, 그 의자가 안락함을 주었는지, 가만 나를 돌아봅니다.
