내게 친절을 베푼 사람에 대해 내가 다른 사람에게 칭찬하는 숫자는 얼마나 될까? 반대로 내게 해를 끼친 사람에 대해 몇 사람에게 이 사람의 나쁜 점을 이야기 할까? 대체로 3대 33이라고 한다. 흔히 사람들은 칭찬은 3명에게 소극적으로 하지만 비난은 33명에게 찾아다니면서 적극적으로 하게 된다. 이것을 33대 3으로 바꾸면 누구나 인간관계의 달인이 될 수 있다.

사람은 누구나 칭찬받기를 원하고 비난받기를 두려워합니다. 러시아 속담에 ‘칭찬할 때는 큰 소리로, 비난은 작은 소리로 하라’는 말이 있습니다. 칭찬은 수다쟁이가 되어 의식적으로 많이 하고, 반대로 비난은 내 선에서 그냥 꿀꺽 삼켜 버리는 연습이 필요합니다.
