소박한 행복

소박한 행복

나의 삶을 이루는 소박한 행복 세 가지는 스승이자 벗인 책 몇 권, 자신의 일손을 기다리는 채소밭, 그리고 오두막 옆 개울물 길어다 마시는 차 한 잔이다.

강원도 오두막에서 무소유의 삶을 살다 가신 법정 스님의 행복론을 듣노라면 솔바람 속을 걷는 듯 가슴이 맑아집니다.

먼지세상을 사는 우리가 스님의 삶을 흉내내며 살아가기는 어렵지만 잠시나마 그 마음자리를 살피다 보면 지니고 사는 게 너무 많다는 생각이 들곤 합니다.

나의 지혜를 밝혀 줄 책 몇 권, 땀 흘려 허기를 메워 줄 먹을 거리를 마련할 수 있는 채소밭, 그리고 개울물 길어 마시는 차 한 잔의 여유에도 행복을 느끼는 그 소박함에 비하면 너무 많은 것을 지니고 또 탐해온 것 같아 내 안섶을 돌아보게 됩니다.

행복은 필요한 것을 많이 지니는 것이 아니라 불필요한 것으로부터 자유로워야 한다던 법정스님의 말씀이 장군죽비처럼 이마를 치고 갑니다.

그대를 행복하게 하는 것은 무엇인가요.

① 가장 현명(賢明)한 사람은, 늘 배우려고 노력하는 사람이고,
