Nokwol (綠月) : The Green Moon

Classification: Humanoid Yokai (Demon of the Lunar Eclipse)

Aggressiveness ★★★☆☆ (Medium) - Non-hostile unless provoked by territory invasion or deceit.
Habitat Ancient bamboo forests, ruined temples, and vicinities of centuries-old sacred trees. Appears strictly on heavily moonlit nights.

Morphology & Characteristics

Nokwol stands remarkably tall at nearly 2.8 meters. It possesses pallid, pale skin contrasted by striking silver hair. Most notably, branching green horns resembling twigs protrude from its head, while its eyes emit a soft, luminescent green glow akin to a full moon. The entity is perpetually shrouded in an elongated shadow that drapes over it like a cloak. It leaves no footprints; instead, a brief, ethereal green mist blooms in its wake. It possesses the psychological ability to read human memories, projecting phantasms of their most profound regrets.

Special Abilities & Weaknesses

  • Lunar Eclipse Illusion (月蝕幻影): Traps individuals in sensory illusions, stripping away their grip on reality. The potency of this illusion exponentially increases as clouds obscure the moon. Furthermore, Nokwol can instantaneously teleport between shadows.
  • Identified Weaknesses: The entity exhibits extreme aversion to the first light of dawn and the clear reverberation of bells. Its abilities are almost entirely neutralized on nights of the new moon when lunar light is absent.

Historical Records & Legends

According to ancient folklore, the origin of Nokwol dates back to an ascetic monk who attempted to fell a moonlit sacred tree. That night, a green moon ascended within the forest, marking the beginning of widespread disappearances. Records suggest Nokwol does not commit physical murder; rather, it traps victims eternally within their "most regretted memory." Those recovered outside the forest days later often exhibit signs of extreme aging or suffer from complete amnesia.

Conversely, esoteric texts indicate that if a person of absolute truth encounters Nokwol, the Yokai will silently yield the path and bestow good fortune. Consequently, select spiritual practitioners revere Nokwol not as a malicious demon, but as an arbiter of truth and the ultimate guardian of the forest.
